Kappa Alpha Mu Colony Promotes Breast Cancer Awareness

KAM Colony Light the Night
The founding class of Kappa Alpha Mu Colony at New England College worked together to raise breast cancer awareness through promotion of their event, Light the Night, during New England College’s Homecoming Weekend, October 2-4.

The seventeen women sold luminaria bags for two dollars apiece or three for five dollars. Individuals that purchased a bag were provided the opportunity to decorate them; many bags were decorated in rememberence of victims of breast and other cancers while others bags displayed the names of various organizations on campus that supported the effort.

The founding class of Kappa Alpha Mu Colony raised a total of $168 to be donated to the Avon Foundation on behalf of breast cancer awareness and research.

On the evening of Wednesday, October 8th, despite the windy weather on the New England College campus, the decorated bags were lit by tea light candles, making them visible to the students, staff, faculty and general public for a one hour remembrance of the victims and survivors.

The colony has already set a goal for next time and strive to cover the entire campus in luminaria bags.
