Kappa Iota Chapter Recognized by PETA2 for Fur-Free Formal

Portland, Maine — For the 100 percent fur-free formal that they held on April 25, the women of the University of Southern Maine’s Kappa Iota chapter of Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated Sorority, Inc., have received a Compassionate Chapter Award from peta2, the world’s largest youth animal rights organization. Kappa Iota member Casey Webster and her 13 sorority sisters wore peta2’s anti-fur buttons to the formal and posed for a group photo behind a banner that read, “Fur-Free Formal 2009!”

“Every woman wants to look her best for the spring formal, but the Kappa Iota sisters’ compassion makes them radiantly beautiful,” says peta2 college campaign coordinator Ryan Huling. “By making their biggest social affair of the year fur-free, these women showed that a killer look doesn’t mean killing animals.”

The members of Kappa Iota have received a framed certificate and a thank-you card signed by peta2 staffers.

Kappa Lambda Donates To The Make-A-Wish Foundation

Shanna Miller and Dayna Jandreau, the 2 newest sisters of Kappa Lambda, have shown wonderful spirit already! While pledging this past semester they planned a philanthropy benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. They teamed up with Macy’s Department Store in the Bangor Mall and encouraged students and teachers at Husson University to write letters to Santa Claus. Not only did this help to get folks in the Christmas spirit, but also, Macy’s donated $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for every letter that was written to Santa Claus.

Shanna and Dayna took a week out of their busy pledging schedules to gather as many letters as they could from the University community, advertising in the campus center for five straight days. Some teachers at the University even used class time to have their students write letters to donate towards the cause.

In the end, Shanna and Dayna raised over $730 dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation! We at Kappa Lambda, are very proud of them for the wonderful work they did!
