Who doesn’t love mail… more specifically… packages that make it feel like Christmas morning? Subscription boxes are exactly that. A happy surprise package full of goodies that you know you’re interested in. Whether its self –care, tea, coloring books, or even fun socks, there is a subscription box out there for you. Most boxes have a gift option so if you can’t find the perfect gift for someone, consider a subscription box.
Here are some of my favorite subscription boxes that I’m familiar with.
SnackSack
Each month is 11-15 snacks that are USDA organic, Non-GMO project verified, certified vegan, fair-trade, or gluten-free. SnackSack offers several subscription options.
Month by month:
Classic $22.95
Vegan $24.95
Gluten-free $24.95
Pros:
-Getting to try new foods/snacks/flavors
Cons:
-A lot of the items aren’t available in my local grocery store so it’s one and done.
Would I sign up again?
-Nah, there are boxes that are more fun out there. But I gifted this to my in-laws!
Play! By Sephora
Every box comes with top products from the most buzzworthy brands. Based on your individual PLAY! profile, you'll get a version with skincare, makeup, hair care, and fragrance trial sizes. Each box includes 5 items.
$10 per month
Pros:
-They really pay attention to your customization.
-Products are quality items.
Cons:
-While getting a lot of items each month is exciting, after a few months I have way too many trial size items.
Would I sign up again?
-Yes! I just need to get through my current stash.
Loot Crate
Loot crate is aimed at anyone who calls themselves a geek, nerd, or gamer. They offer many options for themed boxes. I chose J.K. Rowling’s Wizard World of Harry Potter for my
subscription. The box includes 4-6 items like unique and officially licensed collectables, apparel, figures, and memorabilia and ships every other month.
1 Crate $39.99
3 Crates: $128.97
Pros:
-You get to pick your Hogwarts house for themed items. Cons:
-The shipments were almost always delayed. Loot Crate is notorious for saying you get your shipment on odd months but it’s more like even months because they are delayed.
-I paid for the 1 year subscription and at the time I signed up it was 5-7 items per box and mid-subscription it was changed to 4-6 items. It left me with a sour taste.
Would I sign up again?
-Yes, I really loved almost all the items and I get compliments on them. I just need my budget to allow it.
While subscription boxes are a nice way to treat yourself, it’s important to recognize a few things. Do you think the items you receive are worth the price you are paying for them? Not only speaking in terms of monetary value but also sentimental value. I found myself hanging onto lots of items because I told myself “I paid for this, I want to keep it” even though I didn’t particularly like it. I found that a lot of items were causing clutter so I would cancel my subscription. It’s also important to keep track of your budget and make sure that these little monthly treats are in line with your financial goals. But subscriptions are fun and don’t hesitate to let yourself enjoy the little things.
